Drunk Driver Hits Crowd, Victim Sues Lyft

Lawsuit recently filed by injury victim seeks recovery from Lyft for acts of two of its drivers which allegedly caused a truck to plow into a crowd in Fullerton.

On the morning of February 10, 2019, a Toyota Tacoma truck plowed into a crowd of people in Downtown Fullerton, injuring nine individuals standing on the sidewalk, before ending up wedged into a tree. The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failing to stop at the scene of a car accident, among other charges.

Despite the fact that the Tacoma driver was not an employee of Lyft at the time of the accident, a lawsuit recently filed alleges that Lyft should be held liable for the victims' injuries. According to the lawsuit, two cars, both being driven by Lyft drivers, were partially responsible for the pedestrian accident.

Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that one of the Lyft drivers had stopped abruptly while looking for directions, leading to the Tacoma striking the Lyft vehicle before colliding with the crowd. The lawsuit further alleges that a second Lyft driver had stopped "abruptly and unsafely" to pick up passengers and actually hit the Tacoma, "causing it to further lose control and end up on the sidewalk where the nine pedestrians were struck."

If these allegations are true, then Lyft should be held responsible for the actions of its drivers and this can be counted as just another Lyft accident caused by drivers not paying attention. However, it's likely that the victims of this accident have a tough road ahead of them.
